At Asset Living, whether you're working from the office or from home, finding the right balance is key to a fulfilling workday. In this edition of our Local Favorites, we explore the places and practices that keep our team energized and productive. Today, we’re hearing from Asset Ambassador & Regional Leasing Specialist Sydney Bies, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on her favorite spots and tips for a successful workday.
What do you enjoy most about the area you work in?
I love where I live and work because it offers the perfect balance of vibrant community spaces and natural beauty. I'm located near multiple neighborhoods filled with unique coffee shops, lunch spots, and charming local shops. Just steps away, Garfield Park and Plaster Creek have multiple running, walking, or biking trails. Being within walking distance of so many diverse neighborhoods is incredible as well. When I crave the city energy, downtown Grand Rapids is just a short drive away.
Local Spotlight:
During the week or weekend, I usually alternate between Madcap and SIP Coffee for my caffeine fix. I love heading to Madcap extra early on farmer's market days to grab pastries, fruits, and veggies while enjoying my coffee. SIP is my go-to for a midday pick-me-up with its quiet, work-friendly vibe and convenient location just a short walk from home.
Favorite Lunch Spot:
I'm usually all about making lunch at home, but recently, I've been loving the sandwiches and salads from Martha's Vineyard. This specialty grocer has everything—an amazing bakery, deli, and even a pizzeria—and it's quickly becoming a favorite lunchtime spot!
Productivity Tips:
The key to staying productive for me is sticking to a morning routine that gets me energized and focused. I start with some form of movement and fresh air, followed by coffee and breakfast to stay fueled. Whether I’m working from home or traveling to a property, I keep this routine consistent. A solid to-do list keeps my day organized and on track, while a personalized, comfortable workspace helps me stay motivated. If my focus wanes, I switch up my environment—a change of scenery always helps re-energize my mind.
Team Bonding Adventures:
My role allows me to stay connected even while working remotely. Regular communication with the onsite teams I assist helps me feel included and involved, and my supervisor checks in often to ensure I have everything I need during my remote weeks. Asset Living's Culture Committee meetings and virtual trainings are great for keeping remote workers engaged and bridging the gap from a distance. Plus, traveling to the properties most of the month adds another layer of connection and keeps me closely involved with each team I support.
