Understanding how to build a successful team starts with learning from those who have worked hard to develop and shape their career to become an integral part of the team. In the #BecomingAnAsset series, we ask Asset Living employees to share advice for those looking to grow personally and professionally – from turning challenges into opportunities for career development to persevering towards a promotion – our team members are full of quality advice that can help to guide anyone towards success. Today we are hearing from, Regional Lease Up Specialist, New Development Sereena Maldonado.
What is your background and experience in and what do you do within Asset Living?
"I joined Asset Living five years ago as a Community Assistant for the Student Housing division. Over the years, I made my way up the ranks from a Leasing Manager to a Community Manager. I joined the Multi-Family new development team in October 2022 and have fallen in love with the role. As a Regional Lease-Up Specialist, four other (AMAZING) team members and I spearhead all things marketing for the New Development division.
Every day is a chance to improve as a professional, team member, and person. Since joining Asset, my roles have changed, and I have had the opportunity to learn multiple aspects of property management (operations, marketing, etc.), and for that, I am forever grateful. I have worked under exceptional leaders who constantly encourage growth and embody Asset’s core values daily!"
What piece of advice would you give to a new employee who is #BecomingAnAsset?
"Trust the process, be yourself, and work to improve daily! Every day is a lesson waiting to happen—learn from your mistakes and allow them to make you the best asset you can be. Lean on your teammates to help elevate you and your skill set."
What drives you to be the best team member possible?
"My two biggest motivators are watching our onsite teams thrive and get the recognition they deserve and being a part of, and witnessing our team succeed. These two things continuously motivate me to be at my absolute best. I work with five of the most brilliant marketing minds in the industry, and each of them makes me want to give my all and help us reach our goals!"
What is your favorite memory from this year or within your career at Asset Living?
"My favorite memory was my first week as a Regional Lease-Up Specialist. It was the annual New Development Summit, and I had not met anyone on the team. I was a nervous wreck coming in as the newest team member. The team welcomed me with open arms, and we created such a strong bond in just a few short days. I’ve never felt more at home."
What advice would you give other women who are looking to pursue opportunities in property management?
"My best advice to women pursuing a career in property management would be to continue pushing forward, no matter the obstacles. Always aim high, never settle. Create your own opportunities by coming to the table with out-of-the-box thinking and a winning mentality. The sky is the limit!"
Lastly, what do you like to do outside of work in your free time?
"When not working, I enjoy spending time with my fiancé, John, and my dog, Brees. Over the last year, most of my free time has been spent on wedding planning! I also enjoy traveling to see friends & family and trying new restaurants, and recently I have been improving my golf game."
