Tell us what have the highlights been in your career?
“One of my top highlights would be when Ken Strahan and Jason Fort gave me the opportunity to become a community manager while still being enrolled as a full-time student at Texas A&M. I think back to how fun it was, to take elements from what I learned in my management and finance classes, and then apply them in real-time directly to my full-time job. I learned many life lessons, made lifelong friendships, and it’s the reason I have a career in property management.
I’m sure you have a favorite project you’ve worked on – tell us about some of your greatest work memories or what has been the most rewarding part of your career?
“A favorite project and part of my career was when I worked for Julie Bonnin as an Operations Manager. I traveled all over the U.S. to support troubled properties and train on-site team members. It was fun traveling, but it was also really rewarding to help managers overcome challenges, solve problems in different markets, and roll out strategies for our clients and teams. It taught me, as Julie would say, to “validate the numbers”. I was fortunate enough to have had a lot of people who believed in me from the very beginning and invested in my career at Asset Living over the years – which has made all the difference and certainly been the most rewarding part.”
What has been some of the best career advice or lessons learned throughout your career?
“Volunteer for the dirty work. Raise your hand. Do the job duties for the role you want, even if you don’t have the title yet. Observe leadership from others to determine what to do, but also of equal importance, what not to do. Always be learning. Pay attention to the details to become a subject matter expert. Spend as much time working on the business as working in the business.”
Lastly, which of our core value(s) resonates most with you personally and/or professionally?
“Drive is never being satisfied as having arrived, being done, or reaching a finish line. The fun thing about Operations is that there is always something that can be improved upon. As the industry changes, and as Asset Living reaches new milestones, there continue to be new challenges that need to be tackled. I’m inspired by the drive I witness on my team- the display of hard work, determination, and the commitment to take on any challenge. It’s extremely rewarding for me to see the drive from people on my team translate into growth in their careers at Asset.”
