In this edition, we're looking into the local gems that add flavor to our workplace within the Des Moines area. Today, we will be hearing from Asset Ambassador Thomas Karandjeff, who works at Asset Living’s Drake West Village.
“I’m a fan of the area I work in because no two days are the same” says Thomas, who plays a pivotal role in ensuring that residents have a seamless and enjoyable experience from the moment they submit an application to settling into their new home. Serving both the students of Drake University and two nearby institutions, Drake West Village draws different perspectives while also fostering a unique sense of community.
Local Spotlight:
Despite being Iowa's capital, there's a comforting small-town vibe of Des Moines, with several locally-owned coffee shops scattered throughout the town. One of my favorite shops to visit is Northern Vessel. The hardwood accents, floor-to-ceiling windows, and greenery are just a few of the reasons I enjoy this shop so much. Whether I need to meet with a colleague, study, or enjoy a good book, Northern Vessel has been the perfect spot for me. With a cold brew latte in hand, of course!
Team Favorites:
One of our team's favorite places to visit is actually under our own roof. Haiku has been a top-notch spot for sushi rolls and Asian cuisine. The staff is incredibly friendly, and always accommodating. We are proud to call them our neighbors at Drake West Village!
Favorite Lunchtime Spot:
The Drake Neighborhood is home to several small businesses. One of my favorites is Fernando's Mexican Grill. It works similarly to a Chipotle, where you choose your meat, veggies, and additional fillings. It definitely has one of the best burritos in town, and the ingredients are always fresh.
Team Bonding Adventures:
As a Drake Athletics sponsor, our staff has the opportunity to promote our community at sporting events. It’s always a fun environment to engage fans at events, spread the word about our property, and be a part of the larger Drake community. Our team always has fun tabling at these events, taking photos in Drake gear, and helping students sign their leases. Go Bulldogs!
What makes each day special is the variety of tasks I get to tackle. There's never a dull moment, from handling maintenance requests to planning community events – and having a supportive team by my side makes everything even more enjoyable. Together, we work to ensure that every resident feels welcome and cared for because ultimately, we aim to be the new standard of living.
