Understanding how to build a successful team starts with learning from those who have worked hard to develop and shape their career to become an integral part of the team. In the #BecomingAnAsset series, we ask Asset Living employees to share advice for those looking to grow personally and professionally – from turning challenges into opportunities for career development to persevering towards a promotion – our team members are full of quality advice that can help to guide anyone towards success. Today we are hearing from Justin Lopez, Regional Supervisor.
What is your background and experience in and what do you do within Asset Living?
"In 2009, I started my first job in property management as a leasing agent. I have worked my way from Leasing Agent to Regional Supervisor. In 2020, my property in Bryan, Texas, was acquired by Asset Living. Shortly after the transition, I was promoted to Regional Supervisor for Asset Living's multi-family division, and recently I made a move to our student housing division. Working across various aspects of the company has proven to be an incredible opportunity, allowing me to gain invaluable knowledge and connect with extraordinary individuals. Furthermore, I take immense pride in being appointed as an Asset Ambassador, having been chosen for this prestigious role in both 2022 and 2023."
What piece of advice would you give to a new employee who is #BecomingAnAsset?
“Congratulations, you are home! Asset Living is one of a kind and provides a property management experience I have never seen before. Embrace the culture! All the support and resources that Asset Living has are here for the taking. Everyone is here to support you, from the marketing department, accounting team, human resources to the executive team. Do not hesitate to ask for support!”
What drives you to be the best team member possible?
“My passion is to cultivate great teams. I share my experience in the industry, mentoring future leaders to contribute to the greatest company and career. With knowledge, experience, and passion for the industry, I can directly influence my team’s drive for success. Meeting and exceeding client expectations is the drive behind what we do daily. Drive is one of our Asset Living core values, and I do my best every day to embody our core values and everything Asset Living stands for.”
What is your favorite memory from this year or within your career at Asset Living?
“I have made many memories with Asset Living within my career, but this last year has been one of the best. From travelling to different states and sites to meeting new teams and seeing the work of Asset Living’s operations. I am thankful to have been able to coach, train, and help foster the talent we have in our company.”
Lastly, what do you like to do outside of work in your free time?
“My daughter, Kenzlee, and I are big cruisers outside our normal weekly routine with school and work! When she turned three, we started the tradition of going on a yearly cruise for her birthday, and we LOVE it. When I am not working or out on a cruise ship – me and my Kenzlee spend a lot of time with our Goldendoodle breeding program, Supreme Doodles of Texas. Kenzlee and I love caring for our fluffy fur babies – Minnie, Marley, Tiana, Nala, and Ariel.”
