Today, we will be hearing from Asset Ambassador and Community Manager Katherine Anderson, who works at Asset Living’s Bixby on College Ave.
“As a former Clemson University student, there is no place I would rather work than the student housing market I once was trying to navigate myself. Conveniently located between Atlanta and Charlotte and only 45 minutes from Greenville, Clemson allows you to get the small-town feel while exploring the big cities nearby,” says Katherine.
Local Spotlight:
Unless traveling through for a football weekend, you may have never stopped in Clemson, South Carolina, but next time you pass the exit on Interstate 85, make sure to stop by! Although there are countless things that I recommend you do if you plan to spend the day in Clemson, there is only one way I would tell you to start your day: The Drip Coffeehouse. Not only do they donate their proceeds to a good cause, but they also have the most incredible sweet treats to accompany your morning cup of coffee. I promise you will leave dreaming about their gourmet donuts, cupcakes, and cookies! When you inevitably find yourself in a sweet's coma, you can take a walk down College Avenue, visiting all the local shops until you make your way onto Clemson's campus (be sure to say hi when you pass by Bixby, too!).
Team Favorites:
I am incredibly lucky to not only work at a beautiful property but also to be able to work with the most incredible team! On a beautiful summer day in South Carolina, you will find my staff and I in our courtyard having a midday BBQ together. With not one but two gas grills, we enjoy spending time with our maintenance team, who always cook up some incredible food, and the whole team enjoys soaking up some rays in the various courtyard furniture.
Favorite Lunchtime Spot:
Picking a favorite is not always easy, but you can't think of Clemson without thinking of Smoking Pig BBQ. Not only is this spot our staff go-to, but it is also a Clemson staple. With melt-in-your-mouth brisket and fall-of-the-bone ribs, I recommend getting a sample plate, so you don't have to choose! In addition to their incredible barbeque, they have an extensive array of sides ranging from jalapeno cheese grits to my favorite, sweet potato crunch casserole. If you aren't a barbeque person, I recommend taking a trip to Bangkok Street Food in Central, SC. This hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant is absolutely extraordinary and is only five minutes from the City of Clemson. Without shame, I can admit that I eat at least once a week here. I rotate between my favorites, Pad Thai and Pad See Ew, and my husband gets something new every time. Not only is the food some of the best I've ever had, and the most authentic, but the customer service is easily the best I have ever experienced. It is run entirely by a husband and wife using all fresh ingredients; they dedicate their time to getting to know every customer and make sure that you will leave both full and smiling ear to ear.
Team Bonding Adventures:
Since joining the team in February 2023, I have had several amazing bonding adventures with our staff. Last June, our team took a day to give back to our community by working together at the local food pantry. Even while counting crayons, checking expiration dates, and weighing canned goods, we found a way to make it fun and conversate about things outside work. Before we knew it, we had spent several hours sorting, counting, and distributing food to the community. We now looked forward to making it an annual trip together as a team.
