Understanding how to build a successful team starts with learning from those who have worked hard to develop and shape their career to become an integral part of the team. In the #BecomingAnAsset series, we ask Asset Living employees to share advice for those looking to grow personally and professionally – from turning challenges into opportunities for career development to persevering towards a promotion – our team members are full of quality advice that can help to guide anyone towards success. Today we are hearing from Barbara Nowak Community Manager.
What is your background and experience in and what do you do within Asset Living?
“My background before working for Asset Living was in Health Communications. I was in school when I first started working as a Community Assistant. My goal was to work for a hospital or a company specializing in the health sector. Within my first year as a Community Assistant, I changed my journey to reflect what I was doing then, which was working for Asset Living! I was a Community Assistant for two years while in school, then became a Leasing Manager, followed by Assistant Community Manager. Most recently, I accepted an offer to be the Community Manager over the two properties I started my career in four years ago! On top of that, I get to stay in my home state – Michigan.”
What piece of advice would you give to a new employee who is #BecomingAnAsset?
“I know it sounds cheesy, but welcome to your new family! Asset has exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Everyone welcomes you with open arms and know that whatever you are doing, you are not doing it alone. We have such great resources and a mountain of people wanting to help you that I couldn’t imagine working elsewhere.”
What drives you to be the best team member possible?
“Wanting everyone to succeed, as well as being realistic and transparent. I love having the opportunity to help others and understanding that everything might not go how you planned, and that’s okay! At the end of the day, I want to perform to the best of my abilities, and knowing I do so each day helps me motivate my team to ensure they are doing the same! I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my team.”
What is your favorite memory from this year or within your career at Asset Living?
“My favorite memory has to be hitting 100% pre-leased two years in a row. It can be a stressful time but rewarding to know that my property is loved by many and that my team worked hard daily to achieve our goals each year.”
Lastly, what do you like to do outside of work in your free time?
“Taking care of yourself each day is so important for your health. Outside work, I love spending time with my friends and family exploring new places to eat in the city. I am also currently on the hunt for my first furry friend, so hopefully, I will be a dog mom soon!”
